We encourage all applicants, if at all possible, to audition in-person.
- Live audition dates are scheduled during the weekends in February. Review list of audition dates by instrument here.
- Recorded video auditions are available by request and must be submitted by February 1 to your Blue Demon Domain (for undergraduates) or your application portal (for graduates/post-masters), in the “edit portfolio" section. To enable the recorded audition submission, contact musicadmissions@depaul.edu.
Audition Repertoire
- A work written by an underrepresented or otherwise unjustifiably forgotten or marginalized composer of the candidate's choice. This work may have been written by a female, afro-descendant, LGBT+, latinx, First Nation or aboriginal, or disabled composer, or anyone whom the candidate considers a person deserving of equal treatment.
- Two contrasting etudes showing the applicant's level of technical and musical ability (i.e. Barret, Ferling, etc.).
- A complete work of considerable artistic and technical
challenge from the standard tonal solo repertoire (Strauss, Mozart
Concertos, etc.)
- At least six standard orchestral excerpts (Brahms Violin
Concerto II. mvt.; Rossini La Scala di Seta Overture; Ravel Le Tombeau
de Couperin; Rimsky-Korsakoff, Scheherazade, II mvt.; Debussy, La Mer II
mvt.; Shostakovich Symphony No. 7, II mvt.; etc.)
