All violin applicants are required to submit a pre-audition screening video by December 1.
First you must apply to DePaul School of Music. After you submit your online application, you may upload your pre-screening video under the "Portfolio Submission" section at the following website: DePaul Pre-Audition Recording Upload
All videos received after December 1 will only
be considered based on the availability of audition times.
Your pre-audition screening recording must include one
movement of an unaccompanied Bach Sonata or Partita and the first or third movement of your concerto selection (see below for acceptable composers).
Each piece should be recorded in a single take and uploaded as an individual track. Recordings of individual tracks edited together from multiple takes are not acceptable.
Live Audition Requirements
All selections must be performed by memory
- Two contrasting movements of an unaccompanied Bach Sonata or Partita. A dance section ad its double make up on movement. The Ciaconna alone from Partita in D minor will fulfill this requirement.
- First Movement (with Cadenza when applicable) or Second and
Third Movements (if applicable) of a concerto by one of the following:
Beethoven, Barber, Bartok, Brahms, Bruch, Conus, Dvorak, Elgar, Ernst,
Glazunov, Goldmark, Khachaturian, Korngold, Lalo,
Mendelssohn, Mozart, Paganini, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens,
Shostakovich, Sibelius, Spohr, Stravinsky, Szymanowski, Vieuxtemps,
- One etude or caprice by Rode, Dont, Ernst, Fiorillo, Paganini or Wieniawski
