Auditions: Graduate/Certificate - Violin

​​​All violin applicants are required to submit a pre-audition screening video by January 3 (extended deadline).

First you must apply to DePaul School of Music. After you submit your online application, you may upload your pre-screening video under the "Portfolio Submission" section at the following website: DePaul Pre-Audition Recording Upload

You will be notified of your pre-screen results approximately two weeks after your submission.

Violin Pre-screen and Audition Requirements

(Substitutions may be requested)

Pre-Screening Requirements (each bullet should be a separate video file)

  • Exposition from First movement of a standard concerto 
  • One movement from a solo Sonata or Partita by J.S. Bach

Live Audition Requirements

Applicants have a choice between two audition formats: in person auditions or recorded submissions. Though recorded auditions are accepted, we strongly encourage applicants to audition on campus to benefit from the in-person experience of meeting our faculty and seeing our facilities.

  • ​Complete first movement of a standard concerto
  • One movement from a solo Sonata or Partita by J.S. Bach
  • One caprice or etude by Paganini, Wieniawski, Rode, Dont, Fiorillo, or Ernst

Recorded Interview Questions (only applicable to those who select a recorded submission to audition)
