Auditions: Graduate/Certificate - Guitar

Applicants have a choice between two audition formats: in person auditions or recorded submissions. Though recorded auditions are accepted, we strongly encourage applicants to audition on campus to benefit from the in-person experience of meeting our faculty and seeing our facilities.

Audition Repertoire

Applicants should choose one piece from three of the following four categories:

  • a work from the Renaissance or Baroque period such as a lute (or Vihuela) work by Da Milano, Narvaez, Dowland or Scarlatti, Weiss, and Bach (a single movement from a suite in the latter two cases), or other composers from the same period
  • a 19th-century work by Sor, Aguado, Giuliani, Mertz, Tárrega, or equivalent
  • an early 20th-century work from composers such as Albeniz, Granados, Falla, Turina or Torroba, Ponce, Villa-Lobos, Barrios and Castlenuovo-Tedesco, or equivalent
  • a later 20th-century work by composers such as Brouwer, Britten, Henze, Martin, Rodrigo, Walton, or equivalent
