The DePaul flute studio consists of fewer than twenty
undergraduate, graduate and certificate students pursuing degrees in
performance, education and sound recording technology. The studio works
as a cohesive unit to nurture camaraderie while striving for personal
bests. We encourage students to support one another in all
flute related activities whether at DePaul or throughout the city. We
are honored to have in friendship and fellowship our colleagues through
the Chicago Flute Club and other local universities.Faculty
The Flute Studio
The DePaul flute studio meets once a week for performance class
during which we perform for each other and share ideas of all
performance aspects. Regardless of the specific degree pursued, DePaul
students acquire the skills necessary to become musicians of the highest
caliber. Our syllabus presents clear guidelines for repertoire,
listening and reading. Repertoire will include exercises, etudes, solo
and ensemble literature. The studio listening library exceeds 500 CDs
and the required reading library encompasses all aspects of the
arts. The studio owns six piccolos, one C flute, two alto flutes and one
bass flute. We include as part of the studio a flute ensemble, although
participation is not required in our syllabus.
The DePaul flute
studio has been invited to play at off-campus venues such as churches,
hospitals, nursing homes and sponsored recital series. These
opportunities have helped the students in all aspects of concert
planning, including programming, marketing and performance.
The
incredible level of diversity of musical genre represented by the flute
faculty offers an outstanding education in the entire field of flute
performance opportunities. Flute students at DePaul University have the
incredible luxury of talking to this faculty about all forms of
performance, music business and education. Some of these areas include
orchestral, opera, solo and ensembles performances, contemporary music,
long term freelancing in Chicago, recording and editing CDs and winning
competitions (both solo and ensemble).
