Cello

The cello department at the DePaul University School of Music is a motivated and supportive community of students and faculty.  Faculty believe in teaching that helps each individual student develop a high level of self-awareness, overcome challenges, and achieve their highest potential.  Study is focused on the basic principles that underlie all instrumental playing, and how knowledge and application of these principles allows for more efficient, thoughtful practice and successful performance.  Weekly studio classes give students the opportunity to perform for the their peers and receive feedback.  Demonstration is a highly effective teaching tool, and both faculty members maintain active performing careers.  Students therefore witness firsthand the profound connection between teaching and performance, and that learning to teach oneself is the definition of successful practice.
