The teacher licensure program at DePaul is designed to meet the needs of individuals who have earned an undergraduate music degree from an accredited institution (i.e. music performance, jazz studies, composition, sound recording) and wish to obtain Illinois State K-12 music teacher licensure.
As a Music Teacher Licensure Student, you must complete the following steps to apply to the DePaul School of Music.
To be eligible for the Music Teacher Licensure program, you must have earned an undergraduate degree in music by the time you enroll at DePaul. A complete application to the School of Music's Teacher Licensure program includes your official college transcripts, two letters of recommendation, a live entrance audition (following the undergraduate audition requirements), and an interview with the Director of Music Education. Your online application is due by December 1.
Once your application to DePaul has been received, you will receive a confirmation letter stating that your application has arrived at our office.

Vocalists, Violinists, String Bassists, Clarinetists and Jazz Instrumentalists: In addition to your online application, you must submit a pre-audition screening video by December 1.
After you submit your online application, you may upload your pre-audition recording to our website. All videos received after December 1 will only be considered based on the availability of audition times.
All Other Applicants: After submitting your online application, you will be able to schedule your interview with the Music Education Coordinator and your live audition.
Interviews with the Director of Music Education and live, on-campus auditions are required of all Teacher Licensure applicants, and usually take place on weekends in February. Recorded auditions are acceptable only for students currently residing outside of the continental United States. These students should email firstname.lastname@example.org for instructions on electronically submitting recorded auditions. DePaul does not offer regional or teleconference auditions.
Audition results are reviewed and all decisions about acceptance are made in late March. Students are informed of the results by April 1.
Response to an acceptance is required no later than May 1.
