Auxiliary Instruments

Auxiliary instruments – such as bass clarinets, piccolos, or flugelhorns – are available for School of Music students. To request an instrument, please complete the DePaul SOM Instrument Request Form, and you will receive confirmation and access information within two business days.  If you need an instrument sooner, please come to suite C139 in the HPC during regular business hours.

Priority will be given in the following order:
  1. Large Ensembles
  2. Chamber/Combo Ensembles
  3. Class/Studio Use
  4. Personal Use

Faculty approval is required for personal use – you can either upload a screenshot of an email expressing approval for your use when you submit your request or have them email Julia Miller directly.

Alumni may be granted the use of an auxiliary instrument for an audition or on-campus special event.  This is rare, and pending availability, permission must be obtained from the studio head.

Auxiliary instrument policies:
  • You are to use the school-provided lock; all personal locks will be removed.
  • Do not share the locker combination with anyone.
  • Auxiliary instruments must be kept on campus and in the provided locker except when in use.
  • Auxiliary instruments are not to be taken off campus at any time without prior written consent from the Facilities Manager.
  • You accept responsibility for the instrument for the agreed upon term, and except for normal wear and tear, will replace or repair the instrument if it is damaged, lost, or stolen.
