For DePaul School of Music Students

We recognize that DePaul School of Music students often have a variety interests and talents. Each of our degrees includes a core of liberal studies courses in which students may explore fields outside of music. For students who would like to gain a deeper understanding of subjects outside of music or of two subjects within the School of Music, we offer minors, double majors, and double degrees.

Earn a Minor in a Subject Outside of Music in Four Years

Students pursuing a major within the School of Music may also pursue a minor in a subject outside of music. This is possible with any minor offered by the Driehaus College of Business, College of Communication, Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, or College of Science and Health. A music degree with an additional minor will typically be earned in four years.

Applicants interested in pursuing a minor should select the School of Music and their intended music major in the application. The minor will be added during orientation, prior to beginning classes.

For more information about minors offered at DePaul, visit the college/school website which houses the minor of interest.

Earn a Double Degree in Music and a Subject Outside of Music

Students may simultaneously pursue a major in music and a major in an area outside of the School of Music. This applies to any degree within the Driehaus College of Business, College of Communication, Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, or College of Science and Health. A double degree may be earned in five years with credits earned through summer school, IB, advanced placement, and/or transfer credits.

Applicants interested in pursuing a double degree should select the School of Music and their intended music major in the application. After being admitted to the School of Music, students may add a second degree during orientation. There is not a separate application process to be admitted into a dual degree program.

For more information about the majors offered outside the School of Music, see the Academics Page.
