About
Since the age of eight, Maria Schwartz has been captivated by the flute. Ms. Schwartz received her bachelor's degree in flute performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, studying with Kenneth Andrews. She earned her master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Joshua Smith. Additionally, she was accepted into the Institute's Professional Studies program where she earned a post-graduate certificate.
Maria holds the position of second flute with Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra and New Philharmonic. She has previously been invited to perform with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Oistrakh Symphony, Chicago Classical Philharmonic, Northbrook Symphony, Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and Vermont Symphony Orchestra. Maria has received Suzuki training with David Gerry, Noelle Perrin, and Kelly Williamson at the Great Lakes Suzuki Institute. Ms. Schwartz is a founding member of Chicago based flute quartet, ChiFlutes. As a frequent collaborator with Tempest Winds, she is also involved with The Yellow Book Project for woodwind quintet. She has studied extensively with Mary Kay Fink and Berta Frank and has performed in master classes with Emmanuel Pahud and Robert Langevin.
