College Office COVID-19 Spring Quarter Updates

Dear Students,

We hope this message finds you in good health. The College Office team – Associate Dean, Kate Brucher, Assistant Director of Academic Advising, Amy Weatherford, and Assistant Director of Academic Services, Sarah Kaufman – deeply appreciate your patience as we have worked with university administration, department chairs, and faculty to offer all of our School of Music degree programs remotely, including the minors in Music Business, Music Recording, and Music Studies. We realize that this Spring Quarter will be one without precedence at the DePaul School of Music.

There is no substitute for working one-on-one with faculty, collaborating with classmates in real time in any of our classrooms, studios, or rehearsal rooms, or performing onstage in any of our performance spaces. However, we feel confident after working closely with faculty over the last two weeks that we are able to offer students a good range of options across areas of study and creative course topics for the Spring Quarter. We hope that you’ll join us in creating and sustaining an online learning community until we are able to make music together in person.  Below you will find the specific information you need for your Spring Quarter based on undergraduate, graduate or music minor.

If you have questions about specific Spring Quarter courses, we encourage you to reach out to the faculty instructors. You should also expect to hear from the instructor by the first week of the quarter, if not sooner, about expectations for each class. We expect there will be some bumps along the road as students and faculty alike are new to some of the applications for remote teaching; however, faculty are committed to teaching and learning alongside our students in the spirit of St. Vincent DePaul.

Once again, if you have any questions about Spring Quarter advising and registration, please reach out to us.
Sincerely,
Kate Brucher
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

Amy Weatherford
Assistant Director of Advising

Sarah Kaufman
Assistant Director of Academic Services

As a reminder, here are the upcoming important dates you need to keep in mind:

Monday, March 30: Spring Quarter classes begin

Sunday, April 5: Deadline to add classes to your Spring 2020 schedule (11:59 PM)

Monday, April 13: Deadline to drop classes from your Spring 2020 schedule with no grade penalty and 100% tuition refund (11:59 PM)

If you have already enrolled in a Jazz Combo, Classical Large Ensemble, or Classical Chamber Music Ensemble, please drop those classes as soon as possible, as they will not run in the spring. Additional courses that will not run this spring are listed below by undergraduate, graduate and minor sections.

Jazz large ensembles (Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, Jazz Workshop, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble), Percussion Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble will run remotely.

The College Office is operating remotely, but we are still here to answer your questions. For any questions, large or small, regarding your spring courses, please contact Amy Weatherford at a.weatherford@depaul.edu. You can share your questions over email, or request a zoom or phone advising appointment. If you have an issue with registration, please contact Sarah Kaufman at sarah.kaufman@depaul.edu. General inquiries can be directed to musiccollegeoffice@depaul.edu.
