Auditions: Undergraduate - Jazz Voice

We encourage all applicants to audition in person if possible. Audition registration will be available after prescreen results are sent. Register for a live audition by January 15.

Prescreen Repertoire 

A prescreen is required for all applicants who list jazz voice as their primary instrument.  Please review our Prescreen Information page carefully before submission. 

  • Sing a ballad (from standard jazz repertoire) one time through the form.
  • Sing a medium or uptempo swing tune (also from the standard jazz repertoire) with at least half a chorus of vocal improvisation.

Audition Repertoire 

An accompanist is provided. We encourage all applicants to choose repertoire that is different from what they submitted for their prescreen. 

  • Sing a ballad (from standard jazz repertoire) one time through the form.
  • Sing a medium or up-tempo swing tune (also from standard jazz repertoire) with at least half a chorus of vocal improvisation.
  • Sing "Blue Monk", demonstrating the melody and at least two choruses of vocal improvisation.
  • Sight-read a short passage (provided at the audition).
