Prescreen Repertoire - Due Dec. 1
A prescreen is required for all applicants who list jazz piano as their primary instrument. Please review our Prescreen Information page carefully before submission.
Choose two compositions from each of the following categories and record in the following format: One chorus melody, two choruses chordal accompaniment, two choruses solo improvisation, one chorus melody.
- Blues (medium tempo). Suggested tunes: "Billie’s Bounce", "Au Privave", "Blue Monk", or similar.
- Jazz Standard (up tempo). Suggested tunes: "Stablemates", "You Stepped Out of a Dream", "Star Eyes", "What is This Thing Called Love", "Airegin", "Bolivia", "Fee Fi Fo Fum", or similar.

- Choose two compositions from the following list. Play a chorus of the melody, comp two choruses and improvise over four choruses.
- "Moment's Notice" (Coltrane)
- "Dolphin Dance" (Hancock)
- "I Hear a Rhapsody" (Baker, Fragos)
- "Conception" (Shearing)
- "Ceora" (Morgan)
- "Confirmation" (Parker)
- "Days of Wine and Roses" (Mercer). Up-tempo
- "Have You Met Miss Jones" (Rodgers & Hart). Up-tempo
- Choose two ballads from the list below to be performed in a solo piano style:
- "Sophisticated Lady" (Ellington)
- "Round Midnight" (Monk)
- "Soul Eyes" (Waldron)
- "Old Folks" (Robinson)
- "Come Rain or Come Shine" (Mercer/Arlen)
- "Darn That Dream" (Van Heusen/Delange)
- "But Beautiful" (Van Heusen/Burke)
- Improvise four choruses of Giant Steps (John Coltrane) in the following keys: C, Db, D.
