Prescreen Repertoire - Due Dec. 1
A prescreen is required for all applicants who list jazz guitar as their primary instrument. Please review our Prescreen Information page carefully before submission.
- Prepare “Hot House" by Tadd Dameron (with an audible metronome set at quarter note=160) using the following arrangement:
- 1 chorus each of melody and chordal accompaniment
- 2 choruses of improvised soloing
- Introduction and coda are optional
- The form and changes in the underlying harmony should be apparent in the unaccompanied improvised choruses (as well as in the chordal “accompaniment").
- Solo chordal treatment of the standard "Body and Soul" (Green/Heyman)
Audition Repertoire
- "Moment's Notice" (Coltrane). State the melody, improvise two choruses, comp one chorus.
- "One Finger Snap" (Hancock). State the melody, improvise three choruses, comp two choruses.
- Short solo chordal arrangement of a ballad; choose from the following:
- "Peace" (Silver)
- "A Time for Love" (Mandel)
- Be prepared to demonstrate any modes from Major, Melodic, or Harmonic Minor.
- Show five phrases that you use from the Melodic Minor scale.
- Sight reading of melodic line, chord changes, or lead sheet.
