About
Lerryn Schaefer is a violist and teacher in Chicago. A native of Eugene, OR, Lerryn moved to the Midwest in 2005, earning her BM in viola performance at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton, WI with Matthew Michelis. She completed her MM in viola performance with Rami Solomonow at DePaul University. Other primary teachers include Leslie Straka and Jacquelyn Schwandt.
Lerryn currently teaches violin and viola at the DePaul Community Music Division, Knight Music Academy, and Merit School of Music. She also maintains a private studio in Chicago. Previous teaching positions include the Illinois DCFS Project SOAR, and the Lawrence Academy of Music in Appleton, WI. Lerryn received her Suzuki teacher training from Ann Montzka-Smelser and Mark Mutter at the American Suzuki Institute. She completed additional pedagogy training at Lawrence Conservatory.
As a violist, Lerryn performs regularly with Chicago-area ensembles including Oistrach Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Chamber Opera, and the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra. Also an avid chamber musician, Lerryn began string quartet studies during elementary school and has not stopped since. She has played in master classes for such artists as Michael Tree, Abram Loft, Charles Castleman, and the Pacifica, Ebene, and Brentano String Quartets. ‚Äč
