About
Dr. Judy Iwata Bundra most recently served as Interim Dean of DePaul School of Music. She has extensive teaching
experience at the university and public school levels, and serves as a
consultant to music and arts teachers. Dr. Bundra has been a member of
the Illinois State Board of Education Fine Arts Standards and
Alternative Assessment committees and has served on the Executive Board
of the Illinois Music Educators Association. In addition to representing the School of Music on multiple university committees and councils, Dr. Bundra also earned the 2012 Spirit of DePaul award. She is currently vice-chair of the Negaunee Music Institute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the Arts Higher Education Panel for the Chicago Public Schools.
Dr. Bundra has presented at numerous national and state conferences
on the topics of curriculum development, music assessment, music
listening, multicultural music education and integrated arts. She also
served on the advisory board of Harmonic Vision, the producer of the
award-winning Music Ace software series. She received her PhD from Northwestern University, where she studied development of music
listening skills in school-aged children. Her dissertation received
recognition from the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, and she was the recipient of the 1987 Young Writers Award from Design for Arts in Education. She has also contributed two chapters to the book, On the Nature of Musical Experience (1992), edited by B. Reimer and J. Wright.
