Casey Schmidt holds a BM in music education and saxophone performance from Lawrence University and an MM and PhD in music education from Northwestern University. He previously taught instrumental music in Illinois and Wisconsin public schools for 13 years. His research interests include music teacher education and the modes and processes music teachers use to self-reflect, assess, and modulate their practice, the infusion of composition and improvisation in performance ensemble curricula, and the effects of collaborative music-making experiences on musical and social development. He has published articles in the Bulletin for the Council of Research in Music Education, the Music Educators Journal, Research Studies in Music Education, and Psychology of Music.
