Ben McMunn began studying the classical guitar with Joel Brown, professor of guitar, at Skidmore University in upstate New York. He was admitted to DePaul University for his undergratuate studies under the direction of Mark Maxwell. Upon completion of his BM Ben was admitted, on a scholarship, to Northwestern University where he completed his MM under the direction of Anne Waller. While attending both universities he participated in many concerts, recitals, and masterclasses. The masterclasses he participated in were administered by such great artists as Oscar Ghiglia, Robert Guthrie, Colin McCalister, Elena Papandreou, Hopkinson Smith, and the Brazilian Guitar Quartet. Ben has also pursued Jazz studies with Bob Palmieri at DePaul University. Ben has performed in a wide range of venues in the Chicagoland area, some of which include The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Double Door, The Morton Arboretum, Elbo Room, The Union League Club of Chicago, Space, The Evanston Art Center, and the Edgewater Musicians holiday concert series at the Chicago Public Library. Ben has experience teaching many levels, ages, and styles of music. In addition to the Community Music Division, Ben has taught in many institutions in the Chicago area such as Northwestern University, The Fox River Academy of Music and Art, Kim's International Music, and Lafayette Middle School CPS. Ben continues to be an active performer and teacher in the Chicago area.
