Summer Instrument Intensives

Two different weeks: June 28 - July 2  &  July 12 - July 16

Immerse yourself in an innovative week of music-making with the world-renowned DePaul School of Music faculty! Recommended for ages 16-24, Instrument Intensives offer serious young students an invaluable chance to work closely with outstanding professional musicians including members of  the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Grant Park Symphony, along with distinguished soloists and chamber music artists.

Each five-day session includes three hours of engaging and interactive instruction. You will enjoy master classes, live discussions, group workshops, as well as an individual private lesson. Each intensive is uniquely designed to serve the specific needs of its studio. Cliff Colnot, Director of Orchestral Studies, will lead an hour-long session in intonation and professionalism for select Instrument Intensives. Topics include mental and practice strategies, audition preparation, fundamentals, technique classes, performance anxiety, reed making, and more!

Enhance your Instrument Intensive by adding on a Mindfulness for Musicians workshop, led by DePaul School of Music faculty member Stephen Burns. This workshop is designed to heighten a musician's focus, relaxation, confidence, and peak performance levels. Runs daily for one hour prior to the Instrument Intensive.

Application deadline is May 14, at 11:59PM for Week One and June 4, at 11:59PM for Week Two.
*Please note: If you previously submitted a graduate application to DePaul, you will need to create a new account using the application link above. Your graduate applicant credentials do not grant you access to summer applications. ​

Note: Current and incoming DePaul students do not need to submit additional audition recordings with their application at this time.  Transcripts are not required for application.
Applications are currently being accepted for students between the age of 16 and 24 on a rolling basis until a 16 student capacity is met for each instrument studio.  

​Week One Intensives (June 28 - July 2):

Week Two Intensives (July 12 - July 16):

Tuition for all but the Piano Intensive is $350 for current and admitted DePaul students and DePaul alumni. Tuition for all other students is $425.

Tuition for the Piano Intensive is $250 for current and admitted DePaul students and DePaul alumni. Tuition for all other students is $350.

Tuition for the Mindfulness for Musicians add-on session is $85 for curent and admitted DePaul students and DePaul alumni. Tuition for all other students is $95.  This class is offered as an add-on to a studio intensive and is not available as a stand-alone session. 

Current and admitted DePaul students to not need to submit addtional recordings with the application. Transcripts are not required to sumbit application.

Friday, May 14, 2021, at 11:59PM is application deadline for Week One Intensives.

Friday, June 4, 2021, at 11:59PM is application deadline for Week Two Intensives.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the capacities are met for each studio.

For Week One Intensive:

Monday, May 28, 2021 at 5PM - 50% of tuition deposit is due.

Monday, June 21, 2021 at 5:00PM - final payment of tuition is due.

For Week Two Intensive:

Monday, June 14, 2021 at 5PM - 50% of tuition deposit is due.

Monday, July 5, 2021 at 5PM - final payment of tuition is due.
