Summer Instrument Intensives

​​​​​​​Virtual learning together with the world-renowned School of Music faculty

Two different weeks: July 27 - July 31  &  August 3 - August 7

Immerse yourself in an innovative week of music making with the world-renowned DePaul School of Music faculty! Recommended for ages 16-24, Instrument Intensives offer serious young students an invaluable chance to work closely with outstanding professional musicians including members of  the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera Orchestra, and Grant Park Symphony, along with distinguished soloists and chamber music artists.

Each five-day session includes three hours of engaging and interactive instruction. You will enjoy master classes, live discussions, group workshops, as well as an individual private lesson. Each intensive is uniquely designed to serve the specific needs of its studio.  Topics include mental and practice strategies, audition preparation, fundamentals, technique classes, performance anxiety, reed making and more!

Week One Intensives (July 27 - July 31):

Week Two Intensives (August 3 - August 7):

Tuition for the program is $275 (non-credit) for currently enrolled DePaul University School of Music students (including those beginning Fall 2020), $375 (non-credit) for all other students.

All applicants should provide your instrument, years of study, a simple resumé describing your musical experience, and private teacher name with contact information in the online application. Additionally, each Instrument Intensive requires video audition materials to be sumbitted. Requirements vary based on instruments and are listed below.  

For violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, euphonium and percussion: Please submit a short example of your playing that best demonstrates the full range of your technical and expressive skills (five minutes or less). Piano accompaniment is not required.      

For piano: Please submit a short example of your playing that best demonstrates the full range of your technical and expressive skills (ten minutes or less).

NOTE:  Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the maximum of 16 students per instrument studio is reached. Current and incoming DePaul students or students who were previously accepted into the Summer ChamberFest program do not need to submit additional audition recordings at this time with their application.  

July 10 - Applications must be received. 

July 13 - Registration fees must be received. 

Payment instructions will be communicated upon acceptance.
