Horn Intensive

Virtual class sessions will run each day from 10AM - 12 Noon and 1PM - 2PM (CST).  The hours from 2PM - 5PM (CST) will be reserved for individual private lessons.  A one-hour private lesson for each student is included with this program. 
Class topics to include:
  • Orchestral and operatic excerpts, solo repertoire and etudes
  • Deciding on which instrument and mouthpiece to purchase and how to best maintain it regularly
  • Practice techniques to accelerate learning and retention
  • Mental techniques to lead to a more consistent performance
  • How to fight/stop nerves from affecting your performance
  • How to pick a university to attend and how to best audition for it
  • Freelancing and how to get your name "out there" 
  • Audition preparation process from beginning to end
  • Professionalism on the job
  • Tips on how to develop, refine and intensify your low range
Horn students should prepare one or two contrasting solo works to perform, one to two etudes to perform and as many orchestral or operatic excerpts as you are able.  As you are accepted into the program, please send a detailed list of all of the works you will be prepared to play before the Intensive begins to Neil Kimel.​
