Vincentian Initiatives Committee

The Vincentian Initiatives Committee at the School of Music has launched a community outreach program with the Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Mary's Home. Our aim is twofold: we want to engage the residents of the home, especially isolated during the pandemic, with the local community, bringing them entertainment and engagement. At the same time, this initiative will challenge our School of Music community to engage in the Vincentian mission of helping those in need of assistance. We understand that many are busy during this time, so this outreach is very easy to participate in.

How to Participate

Either alone or in a group you can record a video that we will send to the residents. In the video(s), you can play, talk, and/or otherwise engage in any way you feel. You can also send us performance videos – for example parts of student or faculty recitals that we can send to them. The videos can be any length, and their main purpose is to engage and entertain the residents, so use your creativity! Then upload the video(s) to the below Google Form and submit. You may submit videos at any time, as we will be sending them videos every week.

A Message from Little Sisters of the Poor

"Thank you all for your interest in providing a bit of music and joy to our residents at Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Mary’s Home. We are a skilled nursing facility that is run by the Little Sisters. Continuing the work of Saint Jeanne Jugan, our mission is to offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.

While this has certainly been a difficult time for us, we appreciate the thoughts of those in the community around us and are so excited that things are looking up. Just a few weeks ago we recognized the anniversary of the home going into lockdown and had a dedication to all residents and loved ones that were lost to COVID-19. The good news is that the majority of our residents and staff have been fully vaccinated. Our residents have begun to eat in the dining room again, attend mass, and gather in small groups for activities. We are also able to have monitored family visits indoors. It has been great to see a bit more of the hustle and bustle about the home. I am excited to share your videos with our residents and know that they will enjoy it. I look forward to the day we can have you all come to the home and share your talents, while being able to interact with our residents personally. Please reach out if you have any interest in volunteering in person in the future. Thank you again!"
