I want to register for chamber ensemble this quarter. What must I do?

You must complete an Application for Chamber Music Participation appropriate to your instrument, which may be found above.

May I register for more than one chamber ensemble?

Undergraduates may enroll in a maximum of one chamber ensemble per quarter. Graduate students may enroll in a maximum of two ensembles per quarter. Individual exceptions may be made by chamber coordinators if there are particular needs in certain instrumentation or other extenuating circumstances.

Should I register for 0 or 1 credit?

All undergraduates must enroll in chamber music for 1 credit without exception. Graduate students may enroll in one chamber group for free (0 credit), but a second chamber ensemble must be 1 credit. Please keep track of your quarterly credit limits to avoid signing up for more credits than you are allowed or can afford.

I can't register for Chamber Music on Campus Connect; what am I doing wrong?

Once your application is processed and approved, the Coordinators will have you enrolled. No action is required on your part once you've submitted your Application. You should check your course roster on Campus Connect before the last day to add classes to ensure that you have been registered for the right section and number of credits.

Students must have any financial blocks on their account removed in order to be registered. If a student has a financial block, it is the student's responsibility to notify the Coordinator of Academic Services in the College Office when the block is lifted. All financial matters must be resolved before the last day to add classes.

Am I guaranteed enrollment if I submit an Application?

While Coordinators will make every effort to place you in an ensemble, your enrollment is not guaranteed and depends on the total number of applicants and available coaches. The final decision rests with the Coordinators.

I want to participate in chamber music, but I don't know any instrumentalists or vocalists to form a group with. What do I do?

While students are encouraged apply as pre-formed groups, single applicants may request to be placed in a chamber ensemble – the Coordinators will do their best to place you in a group, but enrollment cannot be guaranteed. Either way, each individual member of an ensemble, pre-formed or not, must submit their own Application Form by the deadline or they will not be allowed to enroll.

Can I play a duo piece with one other student and have that count for chamber credit?

No, all chamber ensembles must have 3 or more musicians to be eligible for chamber credit. Furthermore, every member of the ensemble must be a registered School of Music student.

Are we allowed to request a specific faculty member as a coach?

Every effort will be made to honor student requests for a specific faculty coach, but the Coordinators will make the final decision on coaching assignments based on coaches' schedules and availabilities.

What happens if my group disbands or wishes to drop the course?

If a registered group decides to disband, it is the responsibility of each group member to drop themselves from the course by the university deadlines.
