Frequently Asked Questions for Community Music

The new School of Music building will be built where McGaw Hall and the parking lot were located. Construction began in November 2015 and will continue through Spring 2018.

While in the construction phase, both the Concert Hall and the current School of Music Building (804 W. Belden) will maintain normal operations. The classrooms and practice rooms previously in McGaw are now relocated to the Annex (2130 N. Kenmore Ave.) If you have a question that is not answered below, please submit it here.

CMD Faculty FAQs

Who is teaching in the Annex?
All CMD faculty who previously gave lessons in the McGaw building have been relocated to a studio or classroom in the Annex, 2130 N. Kenmore Avenue. 
 
Where can I park?
The parking lot outside the School of Music (Lot K) has been permanently eliminated.
  • EVENING/WEEKEND permit: 
    • Faculty who currently possess the free EVENING/WEEKEND faculty parking permits may park at any of the following surface lots on campus from 4pm-8am on weekdays and all day on weekends:
      • Lot E – Belden/Seminary (entrance from Belden)
      • Lot H – Student Center (weekdays only)
      • Lot L – Sheffield/Montana
      • Lot P – 990 W. Fullerton (north side of Fullerton just east of Sheffield)

Faculty with DePaul ID cards may upgrade to a Clifton Evening Weekend Permit for $60.00 at Parking Services.  The upgrade will allow faculty to park in the Clifton Garage plus the surface lots listed above after 4pm-8am on weekdays and anytime on Saturday or Sunday.
  • CMD FAMILY PARKING permit:
    • Faculty who also purchased the CMD Family Parking permit at the discounted faculty rate may park in the following lots starting at 2:45pm:
      • Lot P – 990 W. Fullerton

Sheffield Parking Facility
2331 N. Sheffield Ave.Parking at the Sheffield garage costs $13.25. Validation of your parking ticket is available at machines located at the Student Center and the Richardson Library. Validation rates are $9.25 and after 4pm, $7.25.
The former Children's Memorial Hospital garage
2316 N. Lincoln Ave.
Parking is currently free for up to 5 hours in the garage, though please be aware that DePaul does not own this garage and parking policies may change without our knowledge.
Whose offices will be in the Annex?
The CMD main office will remain in the School of Music. Limited office hours in a shared space will be scheduled in the Annex. SOM faculty offices that were on the lower level of McGaw have been relocated to the Annex.
 
How can I access the Annex?
The Annex will be accessible Monday through Sunday from 8am to 10pm. Security will be present in the Annex at the entrance lobby. Everyone must show a current DePaul ID card or Community Music ID to gain access.  If a DePaul ID or Community Music ID pass is not presented, access will be denied. Please make sure to carry you DePaul ID at all times.
 
Are there Projectors/AV/ in the Annex?
Yes. Everything that was available in a classroom in McGaw is available in the Annex.
 
When will construction work occur?
Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7am to 4pm. The noisiest of work cannot start until 8am by City of Chicago ordinance. We will attempt to not work weekends unless we need to recover losses due to weather, etc.

What CMD lessons and classes will be held in the Annex?
All CMD classes and lessons previously held in the McGaw Building, 802 W. Belden Ave., have been relocated to a studio or classroom in the School of Music Annex, 2130 N. Kenmore Avenue.
 
Where can I park?
The parking lot outside the School of Music (Lot K) has been permanently eliminated. Those who currently possess CMD Family Parking Permit have the following options:
  • You may park in Lot P (990 W. Fullerton Ave.) on the north side of Fullerton Avenue across from the DePaul Art Museum.
  • CMD Family Parking Permits may still be purchased for $80 in the CMD office.
Lincoln Park Garages
Parking is available in the garages listed below:

Sheffield Parking Facility
2331 N. Sheffield Ave.
Parking at the Sheffield garage costs $13.25 daily. Validation of your parking ticket is available at machines located at the Student Center and the Richardson Library. Validation rates are $9.25 and after 4pm, $7.25.

PAY TO PARK options
'Pay to Park' spaces are available on Fullerton, Halsted, and Lincoln for several blocks north/south and east/west from the Fullerton/Halsted/Lincoln intersection. Side Street Parking options
Side street parking is available on most streets in the DePaul Lincoln Park area from 9am - 6pm on weekdays and weekends. Please check current parking signage.

Where can I practice?
The practice rooms previously housed under the stairs in McGaw have been to the Annex.  Practice in the Annex may begin at 8am, Monday through Friday, and 9am, Saturday & Sunday. Practice must end by 9:00pm each day.
 
Will there by vending machines in the Annex? 
There will be a limited number of vending machines in the Annex.
