A New Home for the School of Music

The construction of the new School of Music center, which will be located along the west side of North Halsted Street between Fullerton and Belden avenues, is underway. The new center includes the 505-seat William E. and Mary Pat Gannon Hay Concert Hall. The elegant and acoustically-optimal hall will be the central public performance element and will accommodate the School of Music’s full range of musical ensembles.
A 140-seat recital hall will reach three stories high in order to deliver professional quality acoustics with a clear and polished sound. A smaller recital hall will seat 81 people. There will also be the 80-seat Philip Corboy and Mary Dempsey Jazz Hall, designed to provide an intimate setting with a jazz club ambiance. Construction of the new center, which will also include an underground parking garage, is expected to be completed in spring 2018.
As part of the School of Music, the Community Music Division will have access to classrooms, rehearsal spaces, practice rooms, and performance halls in the new Music Center. General information about the project, plus a list of FAQ’s for families, students, and faculty is posted on our website.
Our new music complex will give Community Music students, families, and faculty an exciting opportunity to experience music study and performance in a state-of the-art environment.
