William began learning the guitar at age 11 under the guidance of his older brother. During this time he was primarily self-taught, mimicking recordings of his favorite guitarists and attending jazz workshops throughout high school. He took up the classical guitar during his undergraduate career at Ball State University in Indiana. There he studied under Paul Reilly, performing in various classical, jazz, and new music ensembles. He then pursued his Master's of Music degree at DePaul University in Chicago where he continued his studies with Mark Maxwell. There he performed in the DePaul Guitar Ensemble, Ensemble 20+, and collaborated with fellow students in a variety of other performances. William continues to work in the DePaul community as a guitar instructor for the Community Music Division, in addition to teaching privately and in various studios and educational programs throughout Chicago. He performs locally and abroad as a soloist, with his duo, and with his band. Additionally, William is author to a growing collection of compositions for the guitar, many of which are teaching pieces that supplement the existing body of graded works.
