Support Community Music

Did you know?
The Community Music Division...

  • Offers free instrumental instruction to 60 foster children weekly through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services’ SOAR Program.
  • Maintains six off-site locations throughout Chicago, the most recent of which is with St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Logan Square. Materials for this partnership are published in both English and Spanish.
  • Provides music instruction for 650 students ranging in age from infants to senior citizens. Additional programs and special events include the Adult Chamber Music Workshop, Concerto Festival for Young Performers and a Conducting Workshop.
  • Maintains membership in eight professional organizations, including certification as a Full Member in the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
  • Employs a faculty of over 70 professional artist-educators, 85 percent of whom hold Masters’ degrees in their field.

While the CMD remains financially stable and self-supportive, we need your help more than ever during these increasingly tough economic times to provide scholarships for students in need. Part of our mission is to provide music lessons for everyone, regardless of their financial situation, and your support will ensure that students can continue to study with us or begin lessons.

We accept checks, credit card and gifts in kind at the following levels or any amount in-between:

$5,000 Maestro
$1,500 Conductor
$500 Virtuoso
$250 Soloist
$100 Ensemble

As a thank you to our patrons, contributors at the Virtuoso level and higher will receive two complimentary tickets to the Community Music Division's 20th Anniversary Concert and Gala Dinner on March 29, 2009. Funds raised from the Concert and Gala Dinner will go towards our scholarship fund and patrons will be recognized in the concert program. Tickets to the concert and dinner may also be purchased individually for $200 per person.

Performathon

In May of every year, more than 300 students participate in a 10-hour marathon recital of continuous solo and ensemble performances to raise funds for our Financial Aid Program and Community Engagement projects. Friends, neighbors and family members are asked to sponsor student performances for this fundraising event.  Area businesses and interested individuals also give their support through patron contributions, advertisements, and donations of products and services. All proceeds from Performathon support our on-site scholarships, foster children program, and partnership programs with schools and churches.
