Explorations in Theory and Composition I
Using a hands-on compositional approach, this beginning level class offers students an exciting opportunity to explore the fundamental elements of music theory. Students will be encouraged to develop their creativity through activities which include the writing of simple rhythmic and melodic exercises, ear training games, and experimentation with dynamics, articulation and instrument combinations. Students will perform their compositions at the end of the session. Elementary music-reading proficiency recommended.

Explorations in Theory and Composition II
For students with previous musical knowledge and familiarity with notation, this intermediate level theory/composition class focuses on knowledge of intervals, scales, chords and keys, and emphasizes harmonic elements of music. Class activities include more advanced ear training, melodic and rhythmic exercises and experimentation with the expressive possibilities of music. Students will have an opportunity to perform original compositions at the end of each quarter.

Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Theory Course
Students wishing to gain competency in music theory can work towards the completion of graded theory levels of the ABRSM internationally recognized Theory Course. Instruction in the form of tutorials is available in small groups, duos or private sessions. Students will study the required material and prepare for evaluations administered for each grade level. Students should be 8 years of age with at least two years playing experience to begin the ABRSM program.

Private Theory Instruction for High School Students
High school students wishing to explore more advanced concepts in music theory should inquire about private lessons. Instruction involving topics such as harmonization, voice leading and part writing, figured bass, cadences, modulations, modes, counterpoint, and form and analysis can be tailored to meet individual student needs. If compatible, students can be grouped into pairs.
