Violin Auditions
Undergraduate and Graduate violin applicants are asked to prepare the following:
- Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach
Sonatas and Partitas;
- First Movement (with Cadenza when applicable) or Second and Third Movements
(if applicable) of a concerto By one of the following: Beethoven, Barber,
Bartok, Brahms, Bruch, Conus, Dvorak, Elgar, Ernst, Glazunov, Goldmark, Haydn,
Kabalevsky, Khachaturian, Korngold, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Paganini,
Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Spohr, Stravinsky,
Szymanowski, Vieuxtemps, Viotti, or Wieniawski
- One three or four octave scale with arpeggios
and double-stops
- One etude or caprice by Rode, Dont, Ernst, Fiorillo, Kreutzer, Paganini or
Wieniawski (Preferably by memory).
