Saxophone Auditions

Undergraduate saxophone applicants should be prepared to perform two contrasting movements from the standard solo repertoire, scales and sight-reading.

Graduate saxophone applicants should prepare two complete works from the standard solo repertoire and four orchestral excerpts of their choice.

Prospective Jazz Studies saxophone majors or students wishing to participate in jazz performing groups at DePaul University should prepare: concert F & Bb major scales, played two octaves (ascending & descending) in one breath; the sight reading of portions of a big band chart or jazz etude, at tempo, with the use of a metronome; and the sight reading and improvising of two selections of contrasting tempos and styles from the Jamey Aebersold Play-A-Long Series, with the accompaniment of the compact disc recording. Please inform us if you plan to perform a jazz audition.
