- one or two movements from a suite by Bach
- preludes, theme and variations or sonatas by Sor, Giuliani, Ponce, Torroba, Turina, Villa-Lobos, Brouwer or similar level
- etudes by Carcassi, Sor, Brouwer or Villa-Lobos
Jazz Guitar
- Undergraduate Jazz Guitar applicants are not required to play a classical guitar audition, however candidates are required to submit a pre-audition screening tape or CD by December 1st. Recordings must be labeled with the applicant's name, address, phone number and e-mail.

- The pre-audition screening requirement for prospective undergraduate Jazz Guitar students consists of a recording of the jazz standard "Star Eyes" (
- 1 chorus each of melody and chordal accompaniment
- 2 choruses of improvised soloing
- Introduction and coda are optional
- One of the improvised choruses should be performed with a Latin feel and the other with a swing feel
- The form and changes in the underlying harmony should be apparent in the unaccompanied improvised choruses (as well as in the chordal "accompaniment") Invitations for those chosen to audition on-campus will be mailed by December 20th for live auditions to be held in February. Recordings received after December 1st will only be considered based on the availability of audition times.
On-campus audition requirements are:
- the melody and chords for Ceora by Lee Morgan and Joy Spring by Clifford Brown
- a third selection will be read at sight
- improvise on these selections in a manner that acknowledges the underlying changes in harmonic context
