Auditions

The application process includes an audition. Although important, you'll find the setting relaxed and the audition itself an interesting and rewarding experience. Undergraduates will be required to complete a short theory placement exam following their audition.

Auditions are required of all applicants, regardless of intended major, and are extremely competitive. The content of your audition should include works from various historical periods and should be varied enough to demonstrate both technical ability and musical understanding.

All woodwind auditions should be performed on the principal instrument of each woodwind family: flute, oboe, Bb/A clarinet, bassoon, and alto saxophone.

Graduate applicants in Composition, Music Education, and Jazz Studies should request information about admission requirements for those programs. A student with a masters degree in music and a special interest in post-graduate work may apply for the Certificate in Performance.

For further details about the audition process, contact the Admission Assistant.
