Auditions: Graduate/Certificate - Violin

All violin applicants are required to submit a pre-audition screening video by December 1.

First you must apply to DePaul School of Music. After you submit your online application, you may upload your pre-screening video at the following website: DePaul Pre-Audition Recording Upload

All videos received after December 1 will only be considered based on the availability of audition times. Upon passing the pre-audition screening, you will receive a letter by no later than December 20 inviting you to schedule your live audition.

​Pre-Screening Requirements

Your pre-audition screening recording must include one movement of an unaccompanied Bach Sonata or Partita and the first or third movement of your concerto selection (see below for acceptable composers).

​Each piece should be recorded in a single take and uploaded as an individual track. Recordings of individual tracks edited together from multiple takes are not appropriate.

Live Audition Requirements

  • Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied Bach Sonatas and Partitas
  • First Movement (with Cadenza when applicable) or Second and Third Movements (if applicable) of a concerto by one of the following: Beethoven, Barber, Bartok, Brahms, Bruch, Conus, Dvorak, Elgar, Ernst, Glazunov, Goldmark, Haydn, Kabalevsky, Khachaturian, Korngold, Lalo, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Paganini, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Spohr, Stravinsky, Szymanowski, Vieuxtemps, Viotti, or Wieniawski
  • One three or four octave scale with arpeggios and double-stops
  • One etude or caprice by Rode, Dont, Ernst, Fiorillo, Kreutzer, Paganini or Wieniawski (Preferably by memory)
