Music Education

DePaul School of Music prepares musician/educators who understand and experience music education in multiple contexts through the lenses of culturally responsive teaching and Vincentianism. Students can expect the program to be supported and shaped by the philosophy of our Conceptual Framework: "Professional, Culturally Responsive Musician/Educator".

Community Engagement

Music Education students extend their learning beyond the classroom with these community programs.

  • Practicum: A year-long teaching experience during junior year at a local K-8 school
  • Once Upon A Symphony
  • Y.O.U.R.S Program
  • Community Music Division's New Horizons Band

Summer Music Education Programs

Each summer, the School of Music offers music educators certification workshops in Kodly and Orff Levels as well as a workshop on African Drumming.
