Private funding from alumni, friends, corporations and foundations is essential to enhancing the School of Music’s ability to fulfill its mission of preparing its students to excel in a variety of professional careers. Through the study and performance of music, we foster the development of our students as informed, compassionate, articulate, and creative individuals with a thirst for continued learning. We embrace the diversity of our urban society and seek to enrich the lives of other members of the DePaul community and of the Chicago area through performance and the study of music.
Supporters of the School of Music range from recent graduates, to established professionals working in the performing arts, to corporate and philanthropic executives in the Chicago community, to friends and patrons of the arts. While gifts come in all sizes, each contribution benefits the School of Music tremendously and is greatly appreciated.
Your Contribution
Your gift to the School of Music helps the School:
- Create scholarships: The need for funds designated specifically for scholarships is ever-present and will continue to be of the highest priority as we seek to attract the most talented students to the School of Music.
- Recruit and retain faculty: The School has attracted stellar faculty, many drawn from Chicago’s elite musical organizations such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Lyric Opera. Additional funding provides the opportunity to add more such luminaries to our faculty.
- Provide new programming opportunities: From bringing a visiting artist to campus, to creating a new ensemble and more performance opportunities, to sending an ensemble on a national tour—all of these activities (and more) require funding and resources which may not be provided by the School’s annual budget.
- Enhance facilities and address equipment needs: Upgrading facilities and equipment needs enables the School of Music to enhance the overall experience of our students and help them reach their full potential.
Of course, unrestricted gifts to the Fund for Music are another important type of contribution which provide the financial flexibility that the School needs to address its most pressing needs and priorities. Indeed, unrestricted support is crucial in allowing the School to enhance the academic and musical experience of all of our students on a daily basis.
Please show your support to the School of Music by making a contribution today. Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you may be recognized in School publications and programs (unless you specify otherwise).
Donors who give at the $1,000 level or above will automatically become members of the President’s Club, the University-wide giving society . As a member of the President’s Club, you will be invited to special events hosted by the President and will receive special recognition in University publications.
Thank you in advance for your consideration. Your thoughtfulness and generosity will have a lasting impact on the future of the School of Music.
The Office of Advancement may be reached at http://giving.depaul.edu. It contains information about all aspects of giving to the University and the School of Music. Events and the Music Advisory Board
The School of Music Dean’s Advisory Board is a group consisting of alumni who are working professionals, as well as patrons of the arts and members of the Chicago corporate and philanthropic community. The Advisory Board meets three times a year, in September, February and May. Individuals are nominated for membership by a current member, a faculty member, or the Dean. The term of membership is three years with the option to renew.
Members of the Dean’s Advisory Board assist and advise the Dean and serve as good-will ambassadors for the School of Music, working to heighten its profile and reputation in the Chicago area, providing personal financial support to the School, and identifying potential prospects for financial support.
As part of its mission to provide financial support, the Dean’s Advisory Board holds a gala dinner held before the DePaul University Symphony Orchestra Annual Spring Concert at Orchestra Hall in Symphony Center. This event is typically held in late May, and approximately 250 attend the dinner followed by a performance of stellar orchestral music. The concert itself regularly sells out. The date for the up-coming Spring Gala is May 25, 2010.
By attending this event, you will be supporting the School of Music while also enjoying a wonderful evening of music and the opportunity to hear our talented young musicians in action. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Soete, Senior Director of Development for the Performing Arts, at 312/362-7148 or esoete@depaul.edu or Stephanie Trautwein, Director of Development for Music, at 312/362-6331 or strautwe@depaul.edu.
