Faculty

The Oboe Studio

The oboe studio at DePaul takes a holistic approach to teaching given its direct affiliation with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and dedication to the highest artistic standards of the American oboe school and tradition.
We focus on a wide variety of musical and technical issues such as developing the concept of tone, pitch stability, articulation, vibrato, and breath support. We strive to improve technical command of the oboe, bring a sense of ease and consistency to reed-making, gouging, and cane-selection.
We have a wonderful faculty dynamic in the oboe studio. Working together on a regular basis both as teachers and as performers gives us a greater sense of unity and direction and allows us to give complementary, individual viewpoints. The oboe studio has a motivating atmosphere that inspires discussion, provokes thought, and encourages artistic individuality in each student.
