About

Acknowledged in Jazz Times as, “A versatile, forwarding looking and accomplished performer” Michael Staron began his professional career playing Latin Tropical music in Chicago’s inner city at age fifteen.  He holds a master of music in jazz pedagogy from Northwestern University and a bachelor of music in composition from DePaul University.  Michael has been a lecturer at DePaul since 2003, is the Interim Lead Instructor of Music at Triton College 2009-2010, is an adjunct faculty member at Benedictine University and has been entered into the Who’s Who of America’s Best Teachers.

Reviews of various facets of his work have been published in Cadence, Pulse, Jazz USA, Jazz Review, Jazz Word, Jazz Weekly, AMG, New City, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, The Wire, All About Jazz, Jazz at a Glance, and live performances of Mr. Staron have been aired on BET, 190 North and local cable.
He is a voting member of The Recording Academy (NARAS), American Federation of Musicians (AF of M local 10-208) and the Theatre Musicians Association (TMA).
