Auditions: Graduate/Certificate - Voice

All voice applicants are required to submit a pre-audition screening recording by December 1. First you must apply to DePaul School of Music. After you submit your online application, you may upload your pre-audition recording at the following website:

DePaul Pre-Audition Recording Upload

Either audio or video formats are acceptable. All recordings received after December 1 will only be considered based on the availability of audition times. Upon passing the pre-audition screening, you will receive a letter no later than December 20 inviting you to schedule your on-campus audition using your Campus Connection username and password.

Your pre-audition screening recording must include two songs, classical in nature, one in English and one in a foreign language.

Each piece should be recorded in a single take and uploaded as an individual track. Recordings of individual tracks edited together from multiple takes are not appropriate.

Our upload system is operated by Decision Desk. If you have errors submitting your pre-audition recording, please contact their customer support, available through the above link.

All in-person auditions must be sung from memory and should demonstrate technical proficiency and musical understanding in a variety of styles. Students should also be prepared to sight-read. All songs should be classical in nature (opera arias, lieder, art songs, etc.); if you are unsure whether a selection is appropriate or not, please call our office at 773-325-7444. Selections should be accompanied when appropriate. An accompanist will be provided unless the student notifies us they will bring their own.

The graduate vocal audition is:

  • one selection each in Italian, German, French, and English and include at least one opera or oratorio aria and one twentieth-century selection (four selections total).
  • students should be prepared to sight read and may be asked to read at sight texts in Italian, German and French.
