Audition Requirements (Graduate)
All voice applicants are required to submit a pre-audition screening tape or CD with two songs, one in English and one in a foreign language no later than December 1st.
Recordings must be labeled with the following:
- applicant's name
- address
- phone number
- e-mail address
- voice category
- each song’s title and composer
- Please mail your pre-audition recording to DePaul School of Music, Music Admissions Office, 804 W. Belden Ave., Chicago, IL 60614.
- Invitations for those chosen to audition will be mailed by December 20 for auditions to be held in February. Cassette tapes or CDs received after December 1 will only be considered based on the availability of audition times.
All in-person auditions must be sung from memory and should demonstrate technical proficiency and musical understanding in a variety of styles. Students should also be prepared to sight-read. All songs should be classical in nature (opera arias, lieder, art songs, etc.); if you are unsure whether a selection is appropriate or not, please call our office at 773-325-7444. Selections should be accompanied when appropriate. An accompanist will be provided unless the student notifies us they will bring their own.
The graduate vocal audition is:
- one selection each in Italian, German, French, and English and include at least one opera or oratorio aria and one twentieth-century selection
- students should be prepared to sight read and may be asked to read at sight texts in Italian, German and French.
