Application Process: Masters Students

As a prospective graduate student, you must complete the following steps to apply to DePaul School of Music

Apply to DePaul 

Once your application to DePaul has been received, you will receive a confirmation letter stating that your application has arrived at our office.  In addition to your application, you must submit three letters of recommendation [Graduate Student Recommendation Form (PDF)] and your undergraduate transcripts, no later than January 15th. Please have your letters of recommendation and transcripts mailed to DePaul School of Music, Music Admissions Office, 804 W. Belden Ave., Chicago, IL 60614.

Instrumentalists:Your online application is due by January 15. You will then receive a confirmation letter inviting you to schedule your on-campus audition using your Campus Connection username and password.

Vocalists:  In addition to your online application, you must submit a pre-audition screening tape or CD by December 1. Click here for the pre-audition screening requirements.
Please mail your pre-audition recording to DePaul School of Music, Music Admissions Office, 804 W. Belden Ave., Chicago, IL 60614.
Upon passing the pre-audition screening, you will receive a letter no later than January 15 inviting you to schedule your on-campus audition using your Campus Connection username and password.

Masters in Performance and Jazz Studies

Schedule your audition.  

Audition in person, on a weekend in February.  Audio cassette tapes,CDs, video tape and DVDs are acceptable only for students currently residing outside of the continental United States.

Audition results are reviewed and all decisions about acceptance are made in late March. Students are informed of the results by April 1st.

Response to an acceptance is required no later than May 1st.

Masters in Composition

In addition to your application, please submit a minimum of three original scores.  The scores should reflect a variety of instrumentation and/or media.  Recordings are helpful but not necessary.

An audition is not required.

Students will be informed of admissions decisions by April 1st.

Response to an acceptance is required no later than May 1st.

Masters in Music Education

Applicants for the Masters in Music Education, in addition to the three letters of recommendation and undergraduate transcripts, should submit a statement of their teaching philosophy –not to exceed 500 words, and schedule an interview with the Music Education Department Chair.

An audition is not required.

Students will be informed of admissions decisions by April 1st.

Response to an acceptance is required no later than May 1st.
